It has been some time since I have checked in. So far, I have unfortunately been unable to compete a lot in 2018. However, as we are rolling into the summer season I do have some events on the books. I competed at the US Open Local Qualifying a few weeks ago at Southampton Golf Club which is located right next door to this year’s venue – Shinnecock Hills. It was pretty cool to get a peek at the historic venue which looked to be ready for action given the presence of the grandstands and tented villages. I shot 75 on the day which wasn’t even close to the qualifying mark of 69. I chalked that score up to some competitive rust after my long layoff.
Given that I am now working at a club in New York as an Assistant Professional I am eligible to compete in the many great tournaments that the Met Section has to offer. The New York State Open, hosted at Bethpage Black, the Met Open and the Westchester Open are all well respected and very competitive events and all are on my radar for the coming season. I played in my first Assistants event hosted at Sunningdale Country Club, which is also the venue for the Westchester Open later this year, and shot 72. That was enough for a T10th finish. My next event is the Massachusetts Open which begins next week.
After a visit to the incredible facilities at the Taylormade Kingdom in Georgia a few months ago I have made some equipment changes for 2018. In the bag I am now using the M3 Driver and the M3 Fairway wood. I removed an old 2 iron I used successfully in 2017 and replaced it with a P790 3 iron. Because of a higher ball flight I can now hit that club into greens more successfully without having to sacrifice any distance. I also replaced my irons putting the P770 4 & 5 iron and the P750 6-PW in my bag. Clearly I am hoping for a prolonged honeymoon period lasting throughout the season ahead!
I haven’t made any tournament plans beyond August as of now but I have plenty to prepare for over the next three months and I can’t wait!
Thanks for your support as always, cheers!!!
